Here’s an idea that Broward County will never use. Why? Because it makes too much sense. Here are the steps:
1. Break off $200 Million of the Broward County budget. (We don’t really need that new airport runway, right now. Sell the land for the expansion, if needed.)
2. Use the money to buy distressed properties (short sales, property in foreclosure process), at a discount to present value.

I am writing this to express my opposition to the city planned red light cameras.
I am shocked and dismayed at the gross and utter hypocrisy you are displaying in your support of these red light cameras.
I hear a lot of talk about the revenues you would generate with these cameras, yet you don’t mention a word about your very own subjective good neighbor policy that you impose on private property owners who install camera systems to protect their homes and businesses.

You should ask yourself, would my mother approve of this? This logic should apply to all ages, 8 – 80. Simply stop for three minutes and think about what you are posting. Who really wants to see me in this leopard print leotard that is really too small? Should I really be seen with this stripper sitting on my lap, hoisting this bottle of champagne? Should I really post these pictures of my new wife, when my divorce is not really final yet?
Buying a firearm comes with a “cooling off period” and so should the ability to post a picture…
In the social media frenzy, it seems that good sense is often thrown out the window. They say that pictures are worth a thousand words, but did you ever wonder what those words are when it pertains to your profile picture?
Recently, while browsing around FaceBook, I began to notice a very troubling pattern. This pattern began to show everything from the budding alcoholic tweenager, to the desperate widower that is longing to companionship. The one thing that they seemed to lack was the ability to really look at the message they were sending with that picture that they had posted. Will they really be taken seriously by the new employer, or the new lover, should they be lucky enough to find either?
Today is a good day to evaluate your profile pictures. Take a few minutes to browse through them and ask yourself, would my mother approve of this?

The story of Rick Scott, his bid for Florida’s governor mansion and his campaign’s spending on a spectacular media blitz has been all over the news lately. It has been reported that he has spent over 22 million dollars trying to get face time with the people of Florida and has recently reported that he will not take a salary when elected. It has also been reported that since McCollum cannot raise enough money to combat Scott’s spending, and since Scott has spent beyond the limits set by the state, McCollum will now receive a dollar for dollar match from a state fund.

THE NIGHT I MET THE MAYOR |

I went to the Wednesday Town Hall meeting on July 21 mostly due to an info flyer I received from Councilman Fadgen about the proposed millage increase. Like almost every other resident of Plantation, I do not keep up with the business of our city. So, I was not certain what I was going to say to the council about the projected tax rate increase. I do know that the property values exploded in the past ten years and the city government might have grown in pace with the growth of tax revenue. Still, I had no real proof or any information to support this theory. That all changed when Mayor Armstrong began her pitch for higher taxes.
According to data provided by the mayor herself, tax revenue to Plantation rose from 17 million in 2000-2001 to 34 million in 2006-2007. A 100 percent increase in tax revenue in 6 years and now we have a budget crisis? Acting like a petulant teenager, she reasoned that at least she didn’t overspend as much other cities. But the real insult came when she had the nerve to ask for even more money since deflating property values have put a crimp in her mayoral spending spree. I sat in my seat holding back laughter at her foolish explanation while wondering whether she really believes what she is saying. Then again, here is a person that actually named a taxpayer-funded park after herself. Why should I be surprised?
